• How do I become a member of this community effort?
By submitting your wisdom for the book is the best way. However, any marketer can be a member, whether they contribute or not, by simply contacting me and raising their hand to help in any way they can. I encourage all members to blog their thoughts so that we can share the thinking.
• Who owns what I contribute to Marketing Graffiti?
You are listed as a co-author, but no one owns this per se as this is for the public domain (See next question).
• Will the book be copyrighted?
Yes, it will have a copyright under a Creative Commons license as a No Rights Reserved. This means that whatever we publish as a community is in the public domain. The Creative Commons button on this site once the book is done will act as a notice to people who come in contact with our work that our work is licensed under the applicable Creative Commons license. The html code will also include the metadata that enables our work to found via Creative Commons-enabled search engines.
• What’s the time line for this?
I don’t know. I depends on response and how this evolves, but obviously the sooner the better.
• How will people know about this book?
Since we are marketers, I encourage brain trust members to let their networks know about it. This is about social media building a community of interested folks so my goal is to let this thing fly through the Internet picking up converts. Who knows where it will lead? That’s the excitement of this project.
• How will people get the book?
They will be able to download the e-book for free. If people feel this is a worthwhile project and want to contribute for the maintenance of the site, book design and to keep the project moving in other areas—yet to be defined by the brain trust—they may do so. There is no obligation for any contribution since this is about giving back. I am also considering having a hard copy published on demand; no price point has been decided, but will most likely be at cost. This is open source marketing.
• Why do call this project a brain trust?
I am the instigator, manager, cheerleader and editor of this project. What evolves comes from the brains of all who desire to be a part of it. The vision for the book may have started with me, but I believe our collective energy will define it. That’s why I encourage you to contact me and join the brain trust.
• Will I have a bio if my contribution is accepted?
Absolutely, if your submission is accepted. You will be listed in the bio section in the back. This will be a two-sentence bio along with your URL. The marketing objective of this project is to let the world know about you and what you offer to the world! Also, anyone who doesn’t write anything, but contributes their skill and expertise in a substantial way will be listed as a member of the brain trust.
• What do you expect from the blog?
Like any blog, this one is for us to help shape the direction of the project. That being said, I am the final decision maker on any suggestions, etc.
• What about my privacy?
Whatever you share with me is protected and will not be sold, etc. Initially, the only one who will contact you is me and it won’t be to spam but to discuss this project. That’s it, period.
• Have you ever done a project like this before?
No. But I am a strong believer that doing is learning. I am confident that the marketers who are interested in joining me on this journey are savvy, experienced and as passionate about marketing as I am to make this a success. And just as eager to see how this works. The old adage of “You don’t try, you don’t get” applies here.
• Have you done this before?
No, it’s an idea which has marinated in my being for quite a while…Marketing Graffiti is a labor of love and funded by me. I am excited to see what develops. I am not giving up my day job as a marketing consultant and teacher (My business site: www.marketingdriven.com). I see this as an extension of what I love and do every day.
